Thirty percent of the residents of Jackson County live in the lowest levels of literacy. For them, everyday life poses an endless series of challenges. They are less likely than their literate neighbors to be employed full time, advance in their jobs or vote .Even their health is jeopardized when they are unable to read prescription labels or written medical advice.
