Our vision is to promote and support emergent literacy and literacy in the local population, birth through adulthood. Age appropriate and developmentally appropriate books and materials will be provided to young children, birth to five years old, to promote emergent literacy. The Literacy Council of Cashiers, Inc. in conjunction with both parents and teachers will provide literacy support services to school age children. As well, the Literacy Council of Cashiers, Inc. will provide services to increase oral communication, such as English as a second language (ESL) persons. The role of the Literacy Council of Cashiers, Inc. is to identify literacy needs in the community, to raise needed funding to support such identified needs, and to coordinate the planned activities which promote emergent literacy and literacy.
The mission of the Literacy Council of Cashiers Inc. focuses its efforts to support and promote emergent literacy and literacy throughout the population of the community of Cashiers, NC, from birth through adulthood.
Emergent literacy is promoted by providing age appropriate books to emerging readers. Tutoring services are provided to school age children needing tutoring in reading and math skills. As well, tutoring services are provided to non-reading adults, 18 and over.
All services are provided free of charge to participants, regardless of age, race, religion, nationality, or primary language
