Inspring Imagination

The Literacy Council of Cashiers began sponsoring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program in September, 2010. Each child, age birth – 5 years, receives one age-appropriate book monthly to enhance early literacy skills. Data demonstrates that the more familiarity children have with books before Kindergarten, the better prepared they are to begin to learn to read and succeed in school. Currently 95 children have registered. The child must live in the Cashiers, Glenville, Cullowhee, Highlands, or Sapphire, NC zip codes to register. This has been funded by requests for donations through brochures distributed throughout the community and articles in the Cashiers Chronicle and fund raising activities.

About the Program

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a unique early-years book gifting program that mails a brand new, age-appropriate book to enrolled children every month from birth until five years of age, creating a home library of up to 60 books and instilling a love of books and reading from an early age.

At present, over 1300 communities sponsor Dolly’s Imagination Library for over 650,000 children. We would like to share with you some of the comments and endorsements we have received over the years from parents, teachers and communities.
